A look at the existing landscape of coverage for Black women athletes.
For today's newsletter, I'm sharing a video essay – Why Black Women Athletes Don't Receive Equal Coverage in Mainstream Sports Media. This video also serves as an intro to why I feel The Black Sportswoman is necessary, though I don't feel like it covers everything – we'd need a book to do that.
The video starts with fun facts, media stereotypes and discusses the reasons for lack of quality coverage and also shares what The Black Sportswoman wants to do to create better coverage. Following my presentation at Georgia Tech's Gender and Sport Class, I created this video based on my presentation.
